Northern University Theater on Victory day of |
Bangladesh
Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) is committed to providing personalized attention to all students from the time they aspire to attend until the successful completion of their degrees.
With this objective in view, Mr. Ali Azgor Talukder, Associate Professor of the Department of English with some students opened the door of NUB Theater on 2007. But due to some various unforeseen contingencies, it was failed to prolong its activities except some shows in orientation programs.
In 2010, Sajib, Mostafiz and Bikash, students of the department of Pharmacy, Law and BBA along with Mr. Tuhin, Deputy Registrar designed to give a new life to NUB Theater. For the first time they arranged a 3-day long workshop for collecting members. A member of Dhaka Theater and actor Mr. Shuvashish Voumik and a young eminent script writer and Asst. Professor of the Department of Drama and Dramatics, Jahangirnagar University Mr. Anan Zaman conducted that workshop. A total of 33 students took part in the workshop.
Then another 2-day long workshop was arranged by Mr. Anan Zaman and Mr. Nithor Mahbub, member of theater group “Shopnodol” also conducted a 3-day long Mime workshop. Another different workshop on “Lathikhela” was conducted by Mr Bakar Bakul for the sake of stage drama.

After these workshops, NUB Theater dare to perform a stage show. On the occasion of 8th Founding anniversary of NUB, they successfully staged their premier show “SHOKHSHOO” by Anan Zaman on 31st October’10 at Jatiya Nattashala of Bangladesh Shilpokala Academy. The Honorable Secretary Shuraya Begum of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs was the Chief Guest. The play was directed by Mr. Kazi Towfiqul Islam Emon. Mr. Jhuna Chowdhury, Secretary General, Bangladesh Group Theater Federation highly appreciated their performance.
NUB Theater then performed another show of “SHOKSHOO” at Singaire, Savar in a Drama festival where thousands of viewers enjoyed the show.
For observing the National Victory Day 2010, NUB Theater performed a Street Show at Savar Jatiyo Smiriti Soudho. The play was called “Jonoyko Iman Ali”, by Khairul Bashar. They also performed this show beside Dhanmondi Lake.
In January 2011, NUB Theater staged 2 more shows of SHOKSHOO at the Studio Theater in Bangladesh Shilpokola Academy. It’s a worth notifying that among all other private universities, NUB Theater is the only one group who performed Stage Drama in several times at Bangladesh Shilpokola Academy within a very short time.
The present members of the NUB Theater are: Sajib-Pharmacy, Mostafiz-Law, Moni-Law, Raju-Pharmacy, Rib-CSE, Bikash-BBA, Atul- BBA, Sazzad-BBA, Forhad-BBA, Shaikat-BBA, Bipresh-Law, Choton-Law, Mehdee-Law, Sadia-Law, Shohag-Law, Ratul-BBA, Ani-Pharmacy, Hira-BBA, Azhar-Pharmacy
Future plan
“Theater for Change” is the slogan of NUB Theater. Here “change” means good against evil in our society as well as our country.
We want to perform Stage Show all over the country. At first we have a plan to go to Rajshahi and Khulna next month. But before that we will arrange another workshop. We are planning to arrange Theater Festival within this year with all private universities.
I am very much confident about the success of their endeavors. My objective is to let people know NUB Theater.
